RM of Maple Bush’s story
The Rural Municipality of Maple Bush No. 224 incorporated as a rural municipality on December 13, 1909. It lies in the southwest part of the province, next to Lake Diefenbaker, and surrounds the village of Riverhurst and the resort village of Mistusinne. The RM office is in Riverhurst. Gilroy and Grainland are localities within it, and Lawson, once a village, was dissolved on December 31, 1985.
Much of what draws visitors today is along the lake. Palliser Regional Park, about 8 kilometres south-west of Riverhurst, was founded in 1962. It is named for John Palliser, of the Palliser expedition, who reportedly camped in or near the park site in 1857. The park has a campground, marina, beach, picnic area, pickleball courts and a heated swimming pool.
Sage View Golf Course, a 9-hole course built in 1992 at the park, winds through coulees and overlooks the lake. Douglas Provincial Park is also within the RM, and other sights include the Elbow crater, the F.T. Hill Museum, the Qu'Appelle River Dam and the Riverhurst Ferry.
